Grant award announcement, July 13, 2017

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) has announced their 2017 construction grant awards. Grants on the list are awarded on a rolling basis as state funds are available.

Littleton is fifth on the wait list, with an award amount of $5,844,747.00 for our library.

Grant Process

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners has announced a Construction Grant program available to all Massachusetts Public Libraries.

  • The grant provides for the construction, renovation or expansion of a new library.

  • It will cover up to 40-50% of the costs of a new library

  • If the new Library is LEED certified we will receive an additional 2 to 3.5%

  • Every library that applies for the grant will receive a grant.  Libraries will be placed on a waiting list and receive funding as it becomes available from the state.  The Town has 6 months from the time that they are informed they have received a grant to come up with their portion of the financial requirement.

  • It is estimated that thirty or more Massachusetts Libraries will apply for the grant.  A committee of independent reviewers, along with the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, will determine which libraries come first on the waiting list based on the immediate needs of the specific library.

The Library has submitted an application for the current construction grant round. Grant rounds are opened on an irregular basis. Another is not due to come up for at least five years.
